Tiredness

Tiredness

Being tired can have a massive effect on you.

Getting the right amount of sleep, hydration, eating right, looking after ourselves.

How many of us teachers actually warm up before teaching a class?

How many of us have a break between a large number of classes?

How many of us actually stop and eat between the hours of 4 and 9.30?

I would quite easily say maybe 20% if that!

It is so easy to neglect ourselves, as a mum, I find it even harder!  Warm up before class – no chance, I just make it after the school run! Break between classes – NO cause then I would have to pay the hall for me to have a break! Eat between those hours – NO, because if I am not teaching I am dealing with parents.

You can help yourself in other ways though.

When you do get home, put those boundaries in place; turn off the electronic devices, especially the phone.  Relax and get to bed!  It is a well-known fact that sleep helps you function better!

Water – plenty of it!  The body cannot survive on caffeine alone!

Tiredness – listen to your body! You know it so well (cue song!) Your livelihood relies on your good health. So help it!

Get regular treatment, prevention is better than cure.  A regular bi-monthly massage would help the longativity of your teaching career.

So please – take it from someone who has taken her body for granted and now is paying the price!  Listen to it!!!!

Conundrum of a Question

Conundrum of a Question

An interesting conversation tonight.

And a conundrum of a question brought about by our Canadian hosts, a fellow teacher.

If we are taught by the past, yet are taught by the past in the present where lies our future?

We were taught in the past, and continue to teach the past in the present, yet the pupils will live in the future.  Therefore are we always living through the past? The technology that is around today was not available in our past, therefore we are bound to teach the past or the future?
Interesting?

Dance as a skill is passed on, taught by the teachers who learnt from the teachers before them.  But our future dancers – what is their future?

Yes they need the basic skill, but technology moves at such a pace, medicine continues to strive forward in the preparation and rehabilitation of our dancers. If we stick to the old are we truly preparing our youngsters for the new?

My Canadian hosts gave a great answer – all we can do prepare them with the skills to be flexible and adapt, only then can they truly be prepared for what lies ahead!

Deep for a Friday night and a glass of red!

Progression is always key and if you need some help and inspiration then why not come and see me at the following conventions?

Positivity is infectious

Positivity is infectious

Positivity is infectious

How do you wake up every morning?

Is it with a half glass full feeling?

Ok now don’t get me wrong, I am not a morning person, so finding me happy and chirpy with a isn’t life wonderful outlook is NOT going to happen! Not until I have had at least 3 coffees anyway!

No, I am talking about ‘I can’ instead of ‘I can’t ‘

But WHY is this so important?

Indulge me in a little history:
3 years ago I had a nervous breakdown! At my worst getting out of bed was an achievement, positivity – well that did not exist for me! I struggled to survive, I had to because of my children but I hid from everyone the severity of what I was feeling. I guess being a performer came in handy because few new the true extent of my depression.

3 years on – I am a different woman, my nervous anxiety I don’t think will ever leave me but I manage it. I am much happier, more confident and self-assured than I have ever been.

So why the little detour into my struggles?

It’s simple. Positivity – even when I didn’t feel like saying it, is what helped me turn my life around. So here are a few things that can help you bring positivity into your lives even in the darkest of hours!

Thank you – to who or what is your choice, but every morning say thank you, be grateful to have another day on this beautiful planet, to have your health, your family…whatever you choose to be grateful for in that moment….but say thank you.

Reverse your words – I can’t becomes I can. I will achieve… (remember for me at times it was getting out of bed!)

“I can do this” 4 simple words, with such power…. I can do this… say this every morning, make it a habit like brushing your teeth. I can do this – you don’t even need to finish the sentence, just those 4 words will start your day in such a positive way.

There will always be things we don’t know or don’t understand or need to learn. Things that may stress you or you keep putting on the back burner because you can’t find the heart to start it. Life throws us curve balls and often it can be really hard to see the wood for the trees. But as someone once told me “this is a storm in a teacup” many things are storms in teacups and they WILL pass and things WILL get better – but in that moment when you are in the thick of the storm – finding an element of positivity WILL help.

So take those challenges, tackle those goals and keep chipping away at them.
“I can do this”
I know you can, so set your positive mind set and things will work your way, trust me, I have that t-shirt!

I am asking you to be selfish

I am asking you to be selfish

We are in a business where we give:

We give our knowledge, our skills, our kindness, our support, our hearts, our souls and everything in between.

We work in a service based industry where our customers become family, where we know our clients so well we can pre empt reactions, mistakes and issues before they arrive.

We are passionate, creative driven by perfection in movement and skill.

We are not selfish, we find it hard to be selfish, it’s not in our nature.

So my next statement is one I have learnt recently and it’s a hard pill to swallow.

I am asking you to BE selfish!

For the sake of your health, your sanity, your family – I mean your real family not the dance one.

Take a moment, is there something you can let go?  Are you ready to let it go?

Because running a dance school is its own animal and will take over your life if you let it.  Which is why I am so hot on boundaries, because there has to be a balance, you have a right to a life outside of your school.

So I ask you, are you ready to give a part of it up, to be selfish of your needs?

It’s odd considering I help people with their business, to help streamline it, make it more profitable, grow it, condense it – what ever your vision is I can help you achieve it.  But as a mentor, I often need to ask the hard questions.

Today’s hard question is – is it time to let it go?  What ever ‘it’ may be.  Is there a section of your business that is more stress than it’s worth? Is there a section of your business that drains you financially?  Is there a section of your business that you do not have the heart for?

It’s not easy to let it go? But sometimes for YOU, you need to be selfish and make a decision based solely on a benefit to you.

Are you ready to let it go?

So why not join me in THE DEN where we talk money, mindset, profit, marketing and so much more! Take a step in the right direction to push your business to the next level. Start by downloading you FREE e-book.

Inspiration for Today

Inspiration for Today

A short blog today, the words are enough.

A beautiful quote from the wonderful book I just read, thought it was appropriate for a life to live today.

“These then are my last words to you
Be not afraid of life….
Believe that life is worth living
Your belief will help you create the fact”
William James
